Ma’arika-e-Haq: SALU Hosts Power-Packed Independence Panel with Army, Academia, Social Activists, Media, Business Leaders & Bureaucracy
KHAIRPUR: Under the banner of Ma’arika-e-Haq and Independence Celebrations, Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, hosted a high-profile panel discussion titled “Youth and Nation Building: Our Responsibility” at the Students Society Center. The event brought together Commissioner Sukkur Abid Saleem Qureshi as chief guest, renowned businessman Amir Ali Khan Ghouri, Colonel Aamir Hayat (Principal, Cadet College Khairpur), eminent social activist Hina Shah Jilani, senior journalist Imtiaz Phulpoto, and leading academicians, creating a dynamic exchange of ideas on the role of youth in shaping Pakistan’s future.
The session was presided over by Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Vice Chancellor of SALU, who reaffirmed the university’s commitment to fostering intellectual dialogue on nation-building. Proceedings were conducted by Dr. Ali Raza Lashari.
Commissioner Sukkur Abid Saleem Qureshi stressed moral integrity as the foundation of success in any field. He observed that the current education system promotes competition over collaboration and urged students to embrace consistency, patience, and disciplined effort. Highlighting the challenges of the digital age, he warned that while social media is beyond control, verifying facts before sharing is a civic duty.
Business leader Amir Ali Khan Ghouri urged the youth to embrace entrepreneurship, leverage the internet for revenue generation, and pursue startups as a pathway to economic independence.
Colonel Aamir Hayat emphasized patriotism, urging youth to learn Pakistan’s history and culture, and to prioritize character building alongside academic achievement. He praised the armed forces for their steadfast commitment to national interests.
Hina Shah Jilani underscored the importance of gender equality, citing Fatima Jinnah and Benazir Bhutto as role models. She encouraged women to pursue education and skills while calling upon men to actively support their empowerment.
Senior journalist Imtiaz Phulpoto highlighted Pakistan’s progress in technology and AI, advocating for vocational training and responsible use of social media to combat drug abuse. He proposed reserved seats for youth in parliament to ensure their active representation.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Yousuf Khushk praised Pakistan’s resilience and technological advancements, honored the sacrifices of the armed forces, and called for media literacy to counter misinformation. He stressed that teachers play a vital role in shaping patriotic and competitive citizens.
The event concluded with prayers for the martyrs. Earlier, the Vice Chancellor and Commissioner Sukkur jointly inaugurated a photography exhibition organized by the Department of Media and Communication Studies, showcasing themes of patriotism and national pride.
Among those present were Prof. Dr. Minhoon Khan Laghari (Dean Faculty of Management Sciences), Prof. Dr. Javed Mahar (Director, Institute of Computer Science), Prof. Dr. Liaquat Ali Chandio (Director, Institute of International Relations), Prof. Dr. Nazar Hussain Phulpoto, Dr. Syed Tariq Hussain, Dr. Inayatullah Bhatti, and Shumail Rubab Rizwi.
Following the panel discussion, Commissioner Sukkur Abid Saleem Qureshi visited the Date Palm Research Institute at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur Mirs, where he was briefed on the institute’s research initiatives, innovative farming techniques, and its role in enhancing the date industry’s economic potential.
