Shah Abdul Latif University Holds its 18th Academic Council Meeting
Khairpur: The 18th Meeting of the Academic Council of Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, was held at the SALU Khairpur . The meeting was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Meritorious Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk, while the Registrar, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Shaikh, conducted the proceedings.
With the confirmation of the minutes of of last meeting The Academic Council approved a number of important decisions. A total of 133 advanced degrees were sanctioned, including 42 MS, 66 M.Phil, and 25 PhDs. The Council also approved a new admission policy under the disabled quota, adopted the Government’s “Each One Teach One” literacy initiative, and resolved to launch the program of Faham-ul-Quran for students. It further recommended holding the next Convocation of Shah Abdul Latif University in 2025 to celebrate the academic achievements of graduates and scholars.
The Undergraduate Education Policy (UEP) 2023, which had already been implemented for University campuses in the previous Academic Council, was this time passed for affiliated colleges. For its effective implementation in the Associate Degree Program, the Council recommended forming a committee of Deans and faculty members from the University and affiliated colleges. It was also decided that a joint committee of University and college faculty will inspect BS programs in 129 affiliated colleges to strengthen quality oversight.
Addressing the meeting, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yousuf Khushk emphasized that the Academic Council is the backbone of the University’s academic governance and a vital forum for raising educational standards. He said the University is fully committed to promoting equal opportunities for students, particularly those from vulnerable and remote areas of Sindh and other provinces. He underlined the effective role of the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC), and the Postgraduate Studies section in uplifting the University and embedding a culture of quality education and research in line with HEC’s policies.
Dr. Khushk further stated that research promotion is a top priority, encouraging every department to publish its own research journal. “Research publication is like a tree that gives fruit and shelter; it benefits both the University and society,” he remarked. He announced that at the completion of the academic year, Shah Abdul Latif University will confer awards on merit to its faculty, including Best University Teacher, Best Researcher of the University, and Interdepartmental Ranking, to encourage excellence and healthy academic competition. He also directed departments to utilize focal persons and committees to facilitate student internships. Acadmic Council proceeding conducted by Registrar Dr ZulfiqarAli Shaikh .
